In light of recent media coverage regarding the safety of Mexico tourism destinations for Spring Break travelers, Palace Resorts would like to remind all of our valued partners that hotel security continues to be a top priority at every Palace Resort in Mexico’s popular tourism destinations including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cozumel and Riviera Nayarit.
The local state of Quintana Roo has the third highest rated police force in all of Mexico and works hard to keep all visitors and residents safe on a daily basis.
In a statement issued on Feb. 26, 2009, State Attorney General of Quintana Roo Bello Melchor Rodriquez y Carrillo said, “I must clarify that the safety of the population and visitors of the State of Quintana Roo and, in particular, of those in Cancun, Benito Juarez County, is totally guaranteed by local, state and federal authorities. Our state has always distinguished itself as a peaceful and safe entity and the unfortunate events aforementioned are only isolated incidents that do not alter the peace and tranquility that tourists have been enjoying for many years.”
In 2008, 22.6 million international visitors traveled to Mexico, including 18 million Americans. In a statement released on Feb. 20, 2009, the Mexico Tourism Board confirms that Mexico is a safe destination for tourists: “Mexico is the tenth most visited tourist destination in the world and is a very large country with many safe destinations to visit and enjoy. The violence associated with drug trafficking is isolated in cities that are far away from tourism destinations. We suggest using common precautions as when traveling to any foreign country.”
Cancun remains the fastest growing tourism destination in the Caribbean, and according to statistics released by the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau, 95 percent of visitors to Cancun consider the destination to be very safe for tourists.
As always, guest safety and the highest service standards are top priorities at all Palace Resorts.
